Washington Mystics News Release

Washington, D.C. - Washington Mystics General Manager Linda Hargrove announced today that the team has added Wayne "Tree" Rollins to the staff as an assistant coach. Rollins will join Marynell Meadors, who returns to the Mystics for her second season as an assistant.

"We have the same philosophy, the same understanding of the game and the same goals," said Mystics Head Coach Richie Adubato. "He brings tremendous experience as a big man, which will help our front line develop their individual games, as well as our defense, rebounding, shot blocking and aggressiveness in a vital area."

Rollins will be reunited with Adubato, where both men were coaches with the Orlando Magic. Rollins has been an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers as well as a head coach with the Greenville Groove of the National Basketball Developmental League. Most recently, Rollins held the job of President and General Manager of the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association (ABA).

Rollins spent 18 seasons in the NBA, playing with the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Detroit Pistons before ending his career with the Orlando Magic. Over his career, he was considered a defensive force, accumulating 2,542 blocks, 6,249 points and 6,750 rebounds. Fifteen of his 18 seasons, his teams advanced to the Playoffs. In the playoffs, he averaged 3.9 points per game, 8.9 blocks per game and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Rollins was taken in the first-round of the 1977 draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Rollins attended Clemson University where he was ranked one of the Top 10 ACC Basketball Players three years in a row (1974-1977). He was the first athlete in any sport at Clemson to have their jersey retired. In 2003, Rollins was named to the 50th Anniversary ACC Men's Basketball Team.

The 2006 Mystics season kicks off on Tuesday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. when the team hosts conference rival, New York Liberty. Season tickets and partial plans are currently available and can be purchased by calling 1.877-DC.HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com.
