FARGO, N.D. - The MVP is coming back to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The RedHawks have re-signed 2009 Northern League Player of the Year CF Nic Jackson to a contract for the 2010 season, the club announced today. In addition, Fargo-Moorhead has signed RHP Lincoln Holdzkom to a contract.

Jackson, 30, batted .310 with 26 doubles, 17 home runs, 97 RBIs and 76 runs scored in 95 games in 2009, his first season with the RedHawks. He led the Northern League in RBIs and games played (95-tie), was second in at bats (384), third in doubles, extra-base hits (43) and total bases (196), fourth in hits (119) and runs scored and fifth in stolen bases (26) on his way to earning Player of the Year honors.

Following the season, Jackson was selected to the Northern League All-Star Team and to the Baseball America All-Independent Leagues First Team in addition to being voted MVP. He also batted .500 (7-for-14) with a double, home run, six runs scored and three stolen bases in the Northern League Finals against Gary as the RedHawks claimed their fourth championship in franchise history.

Jackson was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2000 draft out of the University of Richmond (Va.). He advanced to Triple-A with the Cubs, and also spent time in the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets organizations before posting an All-Star season for the Camden (N.J.) Riversharks of the Atlantic League in 2008.

Holdzkom, 28, joins the RedHawks after spending the 2009 season with the Altoona (Penn.) Curve, the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate in the Eastern League (AA). He appeared in 14 games for the Curve and was 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA. Holdzkom pitched 17.0 innings and allowed seven runs (none earned) on 15 hits, struck out ten batters and walked 10.

Holdzkom was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the seventh round of the 2001 draft. After four years with the Marlins, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2006 before signing as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox in 2007. Holdzkom advanced to the Pawtucket (R.I.) Red Sox of the International League in 2007 and spent the entire 2008 season at Triple-A with the Red Sox.

In his career, Holdzkom is 16-25 with a 2.96 ERA and 21 saves in 227 games (eight starts). He has pitched 337.2 innings and allowed 147 runs (111 earned) on 269 hits. Holdzkom has struck out 330 batters, walked 198 and held opponents to a .221 batting average against him. He has also allowed just seven home runs in his professional career, five of which came during the 2007 season.

REDHAWKS NOTES.

* The signings of Jackson and Holdzkom bring the RedHawks pre-season roster to 26 players (14 pitchers, 12 position players). The RedHawks open training camp on Thursday, May 6 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. The 2010 regular season opens on Friday, May 21 when the RedHawks open a three-game series with the Joliet JackHammers at Newman Outdoor Field.
