Mustangs Turn Three Errors into Six Unearned Runs in Win

OGDEN - The Ogden Raptors committed three errors in a 9-1 loss to the Billings Mustangs Sunday at Lindquist Field.

In the first inning, the Raptors made their first error. With one out, Aristides Aquino singled into to left field. Avain Rachal then hit a grounder that was bobbled by shortstop Dillon Moyer to allow the runners to reach first and second. Two batters later, Adam Matthews hit a two-run triple to right field. Jose Ortiz then singled to right to bring home Matthews and give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead with all three runs being unearned.

Down 4-0 in the third, the Raptors made their second error. Matthews started the inning with a double to right field. Ortiz then singled to center, which went under the glove of Jacob Scavuzzo, letting Matthews score and Ortiz to reach second base. After a groundout moved Ortiz to third, a wild pitch brought him home, putting the Mustangs ahead 6-0 with one more unearned run scoring.

In the fourth, the Raptors made their final error. Ronald Bueno reached on an error by third baseman Alex Santana to start the inning. Aquino then reached on a fielder's choice on another grounder to third. Three straight walks to Rachal, Carlos Sanchez and Matthews forced in a run. Ortiz then drove in Rachal with a sacrifice fly to left. With two more unearned runs, the Mustangs led 8-0 after four innings.

The Raptors will look to avoid the three-game sweep on Monday. Scott Barlow will pitch for Ogden against Pedro Diaz. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
