Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - The Billings Mustangs defeated the Ogden Raptors 10-7 in 11 innings to finish off a three-game sweep Monday night at Lindquist Field.
There was plenty of late-inning magic from both teams.
The Raptors led 4-2 after a two-run, fifth-inning home run from Kyle Farmer. The score stayed that way until the eighth inning. Avain Rachal was hit by a pitch, and Carlos Sanchez doubled to start the inning. Then, Adam Matthews hit a three-run homer to left to take a 5-4 lead.
The Mustangs extended their lead with a solo homer from Rachel in the ninth.
The Raptors sent the game to extra innings with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Zach Babitt walked to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Adam Law doubled to left, putting runners on second and third. Gerson Nunez delivered an RBI groundout to make it a one-run game with two outs. Farmer added his fourth hit and fourth RBI with a bloop single down the right-field line to tie the game 6-6 and send the game to extra innings.
After a scoreless 10th, Billings scored four in the 11th inning. Ronald Bueno bunted his way on down the first-base line. Bueno reached second after Justin Chigbogu's throw hit him in the back when he got in a rundown as Michael Johnson tried to pick him off. Once a groundout moved Bueno to third base, Rachal walked. Sanchez then singled to center to bring home Bueno. Two batters later, Billings put the game out of reach when Jose Ortiz hit a three-run homer to left, putting Billings up by four runs.
The Raptors were able to score a run in the bottom of the inning when Babitt scored on a grounder by Adam Law to shortstop.
The Raptors will enjoy an off day Tuesday before traveling to Great Falls for a three-game series against the Voyagers, starting Wednesday. Francisco Vill will start for Ogden against David Haselden. Game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
