Chicago Mustangs News Release
Hoffman Estates, Illinois - As the temperature drops in Chicago, and the threat of the first snow looms, the Chicago Mustangs of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) are just starting to heat things up. The team announced today the signing of Honduran National Yermy Hernandez, along with Mexican professional Efrain "Wilo" Martinez.
Efrain "Wilo" Martinez, born in Guadalajara Jalisco, is excited to continue his professional career in Chicago. His claim to fame is his goal scoring ability. Holding scoring titles in 2012 and 2013 playing for Tlaquepaque 2000 in the Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido Profesional (LMFRPro). Last year Wilo made his PASL debut signing with the Rio Grande Valley Flash on January 17, 2013, and helped them go from a team barely above .500, into a playoff team and serious contender. In fact, the team did not lose a single regular season game after he was acquired. "I have had my eyes on Wilo since he put an end to the Mustangs 2012-13 season" said Team President Armando Gamboa. It is true. Wilo holds the bragging rights around camp as the person that scored the winning goal that led Rio Grande Valley Flash to beat the Mustangs, and ultimately end their 2012-13 campaign. Wilo said in a brief statement "I am excited to be part of such a great organization and ready to do whatever it takes to get our team to a championship".
Also announced today was the signing of former Honduras National team defender Yermy Hernandez. "Yermy [Hernandez] brings with him a true understanding and appreciation for the sport, and he will be a leader for this team on and off the field", said Gamboa when asked about his new player. Hernandez was born and raised in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. For him soccer is not only a game, it is a career. "I am known for my determination and that will show on the pitch" said Hernandez. At 32 years of age, Hernandez has spent nearly his entire adult life playing professional soccer. His career began in 1998 when he was signed to play for Real Espana of the Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional de Honduras (Honduran National Professional Football League). He continued with Real Espana for eight years and was awarded the top honor in the sport when he was included on the 2007 Honduran National team, making four international caps and being part of the UNCAF National Cup qualifying team. Since then Hernandez has seen the pitch for many squads including Club Deportivo Victoria of Honduras.
As it was last year, the Mustangs potential roster has been involved in an intense training camp. Gamboa wrapped up by saying "Training camp is showing how much heart this team will have this season, and I am excited to announce two players that have shown exceptional talent over these past few weeks". The announcement of these players comes also on a day when several other Mustangs are returning to camp from a brief reprieve to play in a friendly match in Las Vegas. The Chicago Mustangs open this season at the Odeum on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting the Chicago Mustangs home page at www.chicagomustangspro.com.
