Sioux City Musketeers News Release
Sioux City, IA - The Musketeers earned a hard fought 1-0 win against a tough and determined Omaha Lancer team at the IBP Ice Center in Sioux City tonight.
Sioux City continued with the same intense pace that they had on Friday night in Sioux Center against Sioux Falls, carrying the energy and momentum against an Omaha team with considerable size and physical determination. Goaltenders on each end, Kris Oldham for the Lancers and Luke Kania for the Musketeers, made several key saves to keep their teams in the contest. Sioux City carried the momentum offensively with 13 shots on goal to the Lancers 7.
Omaha came out for the second period with a determined demeanor, picking up the pace and generating more scoring chances for themselves, but Kania and the Musketeers defensive corps were up to the task, limiting the Lancers to 6 shots to the Musketeers 10. Lancer Head Coach and General Manager, Keith Kauffman, replaced Oldham in net with Zackarias Skog at the midway point of the period in order to get a look at the 6'4" Swedish goaltender against the Musketeers in the Lancers second game of the pre-season. Oldham had stopped all 22 shots he'd faced through a period and a half of play for the Lancers.
On the other end of the ice, Luke Kania was perfect in net through a period and a half of play, and remained so for the duration of the game against Skog. The rookie netminder blanked the Lancers, stopping all 15 Lancer shots that made it through a stingy Musketeer defensive effort.
Niklas Lehtimaki finally put the Musketeers on top 1-0, a tally that would prove to be the game winner, when his shot in a goal crease scramble deflected off of a skate in front of Skog 9:43 into the third period.
The Musketeers, now 2-0-0 in pre-season action, return to the IBP Ice Center on Tuesday night, September 15th when they host Red Bull Austria for a 7:05pm game. Ent ry to the game is $7.00 beginning at 6:00pm.
