Stampede Blank Red Bulls 3-0 for First Pre-Season Win

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede played for the third time in as many nights, but put together their best performance of the pre-season, blanking the Austrian Salzburg Red Bulls 3-0 at the Scheels IcePlex Sunday night. Ales Stezka earned the shutout stopping all 21 shots while the Herd got goals from Jack Suter, Chaz Switzer and Csanad Erdely in the victory. The win was the first of the pre-season for the Herd (1-2-0).

After a scoreless first period in which the Herd outshot the Red Bulls 9-4, the Stampede got on the board at 9:29 of the second when Jack Suter found the back of the net on the power play. After an Aaron Miller shot was blocked in front of the net, Suter quickly picked up the puck and beat Austrian goaltender Mark Vlahovic to give Sioux Falls a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the 18:16 mark when Parker Tuomie found Chaz Switzer open and Switzer delivered to give the Herd a 2-0 edge. Defenseman Eric MacAdams also earned an assist on the goal for Sioux Falls who took that 2-0 lead into the locker room, outshooting the Red Bulls 13-11 in the period.

Sioux Falls continued to play well in the third period, but the Red Bulls continued to put pressure on the Herd, but Stezka was up to the challenge and shut down Salzburg. It remained 2-0 until the final two minutes when Josh Passolt sent a pass up the left wing wall to Csanad Erdely who crossed the center red line before shooting the puck into an empty net to secure the 3-0 win for the Stampede.

Sioux Falls finished the night 1-for-4 on the Power Play while the Red Bulls were 0-for-1. Sioux Falls outshot Salzburg 30-22 on the night.

The Herd close out pre-season play this Friday and Saturday night with games against Omaha and Tri-City. The regular season begins at home on Saturday, September 26th versus Sioux City at 7:05 PM. A special Clark Cup championship banner raising ceremony will take place before the game, plus the first 5,000 fans will receive a free mini replica championship banner. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center Box Office or any Ticketmaster location.
