Musketeers' Prospect Report - November 2019

November 22, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release

The 2019-20 Sioux City Musketeers are well underway with 15 of 62 games completed and a 7-7-1 record to open the season.

As the current Musketeers look to push forward with two games on the road this weekend, a number of Sioux City affiliate players will be opening their season's back home at various high school and prep schools around the country. The Musketeer's also have a number of players playing junior and midget hockey across North America.

In an attempt to pull back the curtain on the future of the Musketeers, we spoke with Sioux City General Manager Andy Johnson to get a read on how Sioux City's prospects are progressing and where they will play this winter.

Jon Bell - 2002 - LHD - St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minnesota)

"What Jon lacks in height he makes up for in heart and tenacity. Jon recently finished up the fall season playing in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League where he recorded five points in 15 games. A left-handed defenseman with very good edges and mobility, Jon is expected to be a leader and major cog in a St. Cloud Cathedral team that is looking to defend its Minnesota Class "A" State Championship."

Blake Biondi - 2002 - RW/C - Hermantown HS (Minnesota)

"Blake returns to Hermantown High School for his senior season after spending 10 games with us here in Sioux City this fall recording a goal and two assists. A Minnesota-Duluth commit, Blake is a "B" rated player by NHL Central Scouting which means they think he can be a second/third round NHL Draft pick this year. We expect he'll lead his high school team to the Minnesota State Tournament and win the Mr. Hockey award as Minnesota's top high school player."

Shai Buium - 2003 - LHD - Shattuck-St. Mary's U16

"Shai is young man we drafted in Phase I last year coming out of California but trains and plays at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota. He's a mountain of a man and has high-end hockey sense and a major ability to make hockey plays all over the rink. His stick still is very good for a defensmean and makes him a threat every time he's on the ice. Shai is one of the driving forces for the Shattuck U16 team that is ranked #1 in the country."

Robert Christy - 2001 - LW - Minnesota Magicians (NAHL)

"Robert is the younger brother of Ray who is a key piece of the current 2019-20 Musketeers. Robert comes out of St. Thomas Academy in Minnesota and has spent the majority of this season with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL. Recently Robert, who is committed to Colorado College, was traded closer to his home of St. Paul with the Minnesota Magicians. In four games with the Magicians Robert has picked up a goal and a pair of assists."

Anthony Cliché - 2003 - RHD - Mount St. Charles U16

"Another high-profile defenseman, Anthony has excelled in his time this fall with the newly launched Mount St. Charles midget program which is ranked in the top-10 in the country. A right-handed defenseman with size and a good stick Anthony has the ability to impact the game on both ends of the rink. Anthony, who is originally from the Montreal area, was recently able to join our team on the road in Green Bay for a pair of games and we expect him to be a major contributor for us in the future."

David Hymovitch - 2003 - RW - Phoenix Jr. Coyotes U16

"David is a right-handed forward who has seen his stock increase over the past 12 months or so and his best hockey is still ahead of him which is exciting for us. He recently committed to Quinnipiac and they are getting a high hockey IQ type player that has a slick stick that can make plays and score goals."

Dylan James - 2003 - LW - Okotoks Oilers (AJHL)

"Dylan is a left-handed forward from the Calgary area that is playing his 16-year-old year in the Alberta Junior League in Okotoks which is a hard league for a young player. In a limited role this year Dylan has knocked it out of the park with seven goals and 14 points in 21 games to date. Dylan is a North Dakota commit and another high hockey IQ type guy we expect to be an immediate contributor when he arrives in Sioux City."

Joe Kelly - 2003 - LW - Eau Claire Memorial HS (Wisconsin)

"Joe is a blue-collar type player that fans in Sioux City will love with his stick ability and work ethic. He has a quick brain and anticipates the play very well. He was the driving force offensively for Team Wisconsin U16 this fall leading the team in scoring and we expect him to be a leader at Eau Claire Memorial high school this fall."

Robert Kincaid - 2002 - LHD - Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL)

"Robert is a high-end defenseman from north of the Edmonton area in Alberta. He plays an effective two-way game and impacts all 200-feet of the rink. He moves well and has a great stick. He's been battling an arm injury this fall but has still managed to rack up 12 points in 21 games for the Camrose Kodiaks and was just named to the Canada West camp for the upcoming WJAC. Given his junior experience he should be an immediate contributor when he arrives in Sioux City."

T.J. Koufis - 2001 - RW - Cobourg Cougars (OJHL)

"T.J. is a young man who came over to us as a player to be named later in a trade from the Madison Capitols last year when we received Josh Boyer for the stretch run to last year's playoffs. A Wisconsin commit, Koufis is a powerful right-winger with some jam and sandpaper to his game. After a stint in the AJHL Koufis recently joined Cobourg in the OJHL and we expect he'll add leadership, toughness and offense to that Cougars group the rest of this season."

Mason Langenbrunner - 2002 - RHD - Eden Prairie HS (Minnesota)

"Mason just wrapped up a tremendous fall season in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League earning a "C" rating by NHL Central Scouting. Mason has great length to his game and covers a ton of ground. He has a good brain for the game and loves to join the rush when the opportunity presents itself. He's transferring this winter to Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota and should be a leader on a team that expects to contend for a state title in Class AA."

Griffin Ludtke - 2003 - LHD - Lakeville South HS (Minnesota)

Like Cliché, Ludtke is a young 2003-born defenseman that was able to join us in Sioux City for a pair of games recently when we had some guys battling injuries. The left-hander moves well and has some deception to his game which opens up lanes to break pucks out and make plays. Griffin has some throwback to his game and plays with bite and jam that will make him effective for Lakeville South High School and eventually the Musketeers in a full-time capacity someday."

Owen McLaughlin - 2003 - C - The Hill School/Valley Forge U16

"Owen is a young man who keeps improving every time he steps on the rink and has an extremely high ceiling. He tore up the USA Select 17 Camp this summer and generated a ton of buzz in scouting circles that led to a college commitment to Penn State early this fall. Another high IQ player that will play prep school this winter at The Hill School as he continues to add strength to his frame. He has a very good stick and will make a lot of plays when he arrives in Sioux City."

Hunter Newhouse - 2002 - LW - Minnetonka HS (Minnesota)

"Hunter is a young man who comes from Minnetonka High School which is the same program that produced Bobby Brink for us. Hunter is a darting type forward who has the ability to make plays in hard traffic areas of the rink. He recently completed the fall season in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League producing nine points and will be a major piece as Minnetonka looks to get back to the state tournament this winter."

Landon Parker - 2002 - C - East Grand Forks HS (Minnesota)

"Another Minnesota high school player we're excited about - Landon Parker has been dinged up a bit recently so he missed some action this fall but looks healthy again and ready to be impactful for East Grand Forks High School. Two weekends ago Landon participated in the State of Hockey All-Star Prospects Game and was able to notch a goal in the event. Landon is a kid who was tremendous in our summer camp and someone we feel has a bright future ahead of himself with the Musketeers."

Drew Tsakounis - 2003 - LHD - Avon Old Farms

"Our first-round pick in last year's Phase I draft, Tsakounis has been playing well this fall for the Mid-Fairfield U16 midget team. Now he'll transition to Avon Old Farms prep school where he burst onto the scene last year. As an upperclassman this year we expect him to take another step forward in all facets of his game. Drew is a Penn State commit who has good mobility and shows the ability to run a power play unit in the future for Sioux City."
