Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers were back in Youngstown on Saturday night, looking to bounce back after a tough 5-3 loss the night before. Despite a strong start the Musketeers could not hold on for a victory losing in overtime by a final score of 4-3.

Sioux City came out strong in this one. Early on they put the pressure on the Phantoms, successfully getting pucks in deep, maintaining offensive pressure and getting shots on net. Despite the Musketeers strong early play, Youngstown would take the early lead just 2:40 into the contest on a goal from Nikolai Jenson. Sioux City would continue to battle and managed to tie the game up just over halfway into the period. Albin Nilsson collected the puck at the Musketeer blueline made his way to the top of the Youngstown circles before launching a puck past Chad Veltri to tie the game at one. Matt Miller had the assist on the goal. Both teams had a chance on the powerplay in the period but neither could convert.

Sioux City continued to play hard in the 2nd period and it wouldn't be long before they were rewarded. Nilsson made a nice move to get in to the offensive zone before cutting towards the middle. He sent a cross ice pass over Parker Ford on the opposite wing who fired a one-timer from his knee past Veltri to give the Musketeers a 2-1 advantage. Sioux City would seize the momentum after the goal and they capitalized two minutes later. Josh Bohlin made an excellent no look feed to Brady Smith in the slot and Smith wasted no time putting the puck in the top corner to give the Musketeers a 3-1 advantage. Sioux City couldn't keep the Phantoms off the board in the 2nd and they would crawl back within one at the 14:55 mark on a goal by Connor MacEachern.

Things were fairly quiet offensively in the 3rd period, but not quiet enough unfortunately for Sioux City. Youngstown's Connor MacEachern scored with just 15 seconds to go and the goalie pulled to tie the game up at 3. It would only take 40 seconds of overtime before Steven Hotlz jammed home a rebound to give the Phantoms the win in overtime.

Sioux City will now have just a few days back home before hitting the road again for three games next weekend. Two against the Fargo Force and one against the Sioux Falls Stampede. You can catch all those games live at Castle Pub!
