Sioux City Musketeers News Release

OMAHA,NE - The Musketeers returned to Ralston Arena for a Friday night matchup against the Omaha Lancers. Sioux City was looking for a little revenge after losing in a shootout last game got what they were looking for with a 2-1 overtime victory.

The 1st period was a very quiet period between these two clubs. It was obvious both teams were being wary of their physical play after last week's rumble at Ralston. The good news is the Musketeers would control much of the 1st period, outshooting the Lancers 11-2 in the frame. However, none of those shots would find the back of the net, sending both teams to the locker room tied at 0.

The Musketeers continued their strong defensive play in the 2nd period. Sioux City successfully killed off two penalties to keep the Lancers off the board. Omaha would eventually break the tie with under five minutes to play in the 2nd period. Harrison Roy threw a harmless looking shot towards the net, but Ben Kraws had trouble controlling the rebound, and Jaxon Nelson jammed home the rebound to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. The Musketeers could not find any offense in the period, sending them to the locker room with a 1-0 deficit.

The 3rd period was a tense one, but Sioux City played an excellent defensive game to give themselves a chance. The Musketeers successfully killed off four-minute Lancer powerplay giving a burst of momentum, eventually getting what they were looking for. With the goalie pulled and just 27 seconds to play, Bobby Brink fired a slap shot that was tipped by Jordan Steinmetz to tie the game at one.

Sioux City would get the game to overtime, where they would get revenge for last weekend's shootout loss.

Viljami Nieminen created a turnover in the Lancer zone, setting up a two-on-one opportunity with Parker Ford. Nieminen showed great patience before passing the puck to Ford who fired it into a wide-open net to send the Musketeers home with a huge 2-1 victory.

With his assist, which is listed as Kallionkieli's but will surely change, Bobby Brink extended his point streak to 16 games.

Ben Kraws made 27 saves for the Musketeers, including a monster save in the overtime period.

The Musketeers now stare down the barrel of a four-game week starting on Tuesday night against the Fargo Force. Puck drop set for 6:35.
