Despite Strong Start, Aces Can't Hold off Storm

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Central Illinois Flying Aces fall to the Tri-City Storm, 5 to 2, in the first night of a two night series.
The Aces started off strong as Philippe Lapointe (Burr Ridge, Ill.) brought the puck into the zone down the right wall, passed it across the slot to Stephen Halliday (Toronto, Ont.) at the right circle. Halliday dropped it back to Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, NH) in the slot for a one-timer for his eighteenth goal of the season.
Tri-City had a four goal second period. The first came from Joe Molenaar after he drove to the net at 2:39 in the second. At 5:50 in the second, Zac Jone's shot from the point was screened by traffic in front of the net and trickled past the goaltender to give Tri-City the lead on the power play. About midway through the period a puck flew out from behind the net and Chase McLane grabbed the rebound in front of the net to make it 3-1. Finally, on the power play, Shane Pinto fired home a one timer from the left dot to extend the lead to three goals at 13:10 in the second.
Tri-City finished off the game with a goal at 9:14 of the third period after Connor McMenamin received a pass in the low slot and put it top shelf.
Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) added another for the Aces at 15:27 in the third when Halliday passed to Cal Kiefiuk (Macomb, Mich.) behind the net. Kiefiuk passed it to the front of the net to Janicke for a quick shot and goal for a final score of 5-2.

Central Illinois faces Tri-City again tomorrow night (Sat., Feb. 16th) for Hockey Fights Cancer Night presented by OSF HealthCare. The Aces will host the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Thursday, Feb. 21st for Education Day before traveling to Green Bay for a two-game series against the Gamblers on March 2nd and 3rd.
