Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD | The Musketeers returned to the Denny Sanford Premier Center on Saturday night to take on the Stampede. The Musketeers were coming off a big win against the Omaha Lancers the night before and hoped to carry that momentum and strong play into tonight's contest. The game got off to a good start for the Musketeers, but they could not keep the Stampede at bay, losing by a final score of 5-3.

Albin Nilsson opened the scoring for the Musketeers just 2:24 into the period when he shot the puck off the end boards and then jammed home his rebound to put the Musketeers up 1-0. Aaron Grounds and Sam Stange had assists on the goal.

The Stampede would settle things down after Nilsson's goal and tied it up at the 11:55 mark on a goal from Ethan Phillips.

Soon after the Herd's first goal, Martin Pospisil would head to the box on a hooking call, and the Stampede would score right away on the powerplay to take a 2-1 lead.

The Musketeers answered under a minute later when Josh Boyer fired a wrist shot off an offensive zone faceoff win to tie the game at two and send the Musketeers to the locker room with the momentum.

Sioux Falls would quickly kill that momentum in the 2nd period with a goal just 1:02 into the frame to re-take the lead. The Herd added another goal at the 15:58 mark to extend their lead to 4-2. The Musketeers failed to generate anything offensively in the period, sending them back to the locker room with a two-goal deficit.

Sioux Falls scored their third straight goal at the 12:44 mark to make it a 5-2 game.

Sioux City would make things interesting 4 minutes later thanks to Martin Pospisil and Bobby Brink. Brink made an excellent pass to a wide-open Pospisil who fired a slap shot off the pad of Alec Calvaruso. A crashing Bobby Brink managed to jam home the rebound for his 28th goal of the season.

The Musketeers had a few excellent opportunities to get within one with Jake Sibell pulled, but they could not find the next goal, final score 5-2.

Jake Sibell made 21 of 26 saves for Sioux City while Calvaruso stopped 19 of 22 for the Herd.

The Musketeers will now have to regroup quickly with the Fargo Force coming to town tomorrow evening. Puck drop set for 5:05 pm.

Don't forget tomorrow's game is also Baby Race night sponsored by Promenade Main Street Theatres. Be sure to stick around during the 1st intermission to watch some of the fastest babies Siouxland has to offer. See you there Musketeer Nation!
