Sioux City Musketeers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Musketeers were back in Omaha for the final game against the Lancers this season. Sioux City came into the game just one point ahead of the Lancers for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and they took care of business taking down the lancers by a final score of 2-1.
The past matchups between these two teams have been chippy to say the least, but there was very little of that in the 1st tonight. Neither team seemed interested in playing a physical game early on, and the Musketeers would use that extra space to strike first tonight. Jordan Steinmetz made an excellent pass to Matt Miller who came streaking down the left side and fired a low far post shot that beat Akira Schmid to give the Musketeers a 1-0 lead at the 11:36 mark of the 1st period. Adam Samuelsson had the secondary assist on the play. The Musketeers did an excellent job limiting the Lancers chances in the period, holding Omaha to just seven shots on net.
The 2nd period was uneventful with both teams just getting one powerplay in the period, and neither team was able to convert. Once again the Musketeers did a fantastic job keeping the Lancers off the board, allowing just three Lancers shots to get through to Ben Kraws.
The game picked up in the 3rd period and thankfully it would be the Musketeers who would finally break through.
Albin Nilsson made a fantastic backhand dish to a waiting Bobby Brink on the right side, and Brink wasted no time firing home his 27th goal of the season to give the Musketeers a 2-0 lead. Omaha would get some life a minute later thanks to a powerplay goal from Jan Kern, but Omaha didn't have enough in the tank to complete the comeback. Final score 2-1.
Coming off a fantastic performance in Central Illinois was excellent in net again for Sioux City. Kraws stopped 18 of 19 Omaha shots while Schmid stopped 34 of 36 for the Lancers.
With the win, the Musketeers are now three points up on the Lancers for the final playoff spot in the west. Sioux City will need to keep this momentum going with a big game against the Stampede in Sioux Falls tomorrow night. Puck drop set for 7:05 pm.
