Muskegon up 2-0 in Series After 5-1 Win in Game 2

The Dubuque Fighting Saints will find themselves in a do or die situation for the rest of the Eastern Conference Semifinals after dropping game two to the Lumberjacks, 5-1. Muskegon built off their performance last night, putting up three goals in the first period and tallying five on the night to take a commanding lead in the series. Dubuque will have to battle back from an 0-2 deficit starting with Tuesday night's game in Dubuque at Mystique Community Ice Center.

-Matthew Thiessen was once again phenomenal for the Saints. Thiessen stopped 38 shots and was bombarded with chances for the second night in a row. With the effort, Thiessen now has 72 stops in the series but has still allowed nine goals with all the chances Muskegon has managed.

-While last night it took Muskegon 50 minutes to get their second goal, tonight it took less than five minutes. The Lumberjacks jumped out to any early lead as Egor Afanasyev tallied his first of the playoffs. After Dubuque tied the game, Muskegon rushed back with goals from Bobby Lynch and Colby Bukes. Bukes added another early in the second period to put Muskegon up 4-1, a lead they held till just under four to play when they scored again.

-Dubuque made adjustments on their power play and the tally was the lone goal of the game for Dubuque. Jacob Semik scored on a point shot early in the first to tie the game.

-Dubuque has trailed in all four postseason games heading in to the third period. The Fighting Saints were down 1-0 after two in the first three games and down 4-1 in this one. The Saints have played from behind and it seems like it has caught up to them.

-Muskegon has now scored four goals or more in both playoff games this season and 37 of 64 games in total. The Lumberjacks have one of the most potent offenses and seem to be the team that raced through the first half of the season with barely more than a blip on the radar.

-Brandon Bussi was once again solid but once again benefitted from the strong play in front of him. Muskegon's defense has been solid, but it has been more a case of their offense dominating possession and chances that have led to the good outcomes defensively.

-Dubuque will have a chance to get a game back on home ice as they take to the ice at Mystique Community Ice center on Tuesday night. Dubuque will look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win and Muskegon will look to close the series out.
