Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Something has indeed clicked for the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
After four straight losses to start the season in which they scored no more than two goals a game, the Lumberjacks have looked like a completely different team in their last six.
Muskegon has scored no less than three goals during its six-game win streak and has averaged 5.5 goals per game since the cold start. That includes a convincing 6-1 win Saturday at Denny Sanford Premier Center over the Sioux Falls Stampede.
The Lumberjacks exploded for four first-period goals on their way to the weekend sweep of Sioux Falls, which falls to 2-6.
Muskegon completely dominated the opening 20 minutes to the tune of a 15-6 shot advantage and the 4-0 lead. Oliver MacDonald (9), Danil Gushchin (4), Tanner Edwards (5) and Luke Mobley (4) all lit the lamp for the guests.
The win streak propels the Lumberjacks to 12 points and into a fourth-place tie with Cedar Rapids in the crowded Eastern Conference.
Muskegon has plenty of momentum heading into a big weekend at L.C. Walker Arena next week. Muskegon will face Western Conference-leading Waterloo, which has just one loss in eight games, on Friday and Youngstown, which beat Muskegon twice already this season, on Saturday.
The pair of games will be the first two of five straight games at home for the Lumberjacks, who have outscored their opponents 33-13 during the six-game winning streak.
Tyler Coffey scored Sioux Falls' lone goal of the game just 59 seconds into the second period, but the Lumberjacks responded quickly. Jack Williams (2) scored three minutes later for the Lumberjacks to reestablish the 4-goal lead.
Harrison Roy scored his first goal as a Lumberjack with 15 seconds left in the third period on a nifty drag-move across the front of the net.
Lumberjacks goalie Jonathon (Jack) Williams continued the good goaltending for Muskegon with a 26-save effort.
Muskegon outshot Sioux Falls 30-27. Five Lumberjacks recorded two points.
Neither team scored a power-play goal, as there were only five total chances.
