Dubuque Fights Back to Claim Point, Falls 5-4 in OT

Dubuque fought back from a 4-2 deficit to force overtime in the final 3:12 of regulation but Chaz Lucius scored the game winner for the NTDP U-17's as they notched their third straight win in dramatic fashion. Dubuque's win streak was halted at six games to start the season, but they extended their point streak to seven games. The NTDP scored 14 goals over their two home games in their best showings of the season.

-Dubuque found themselves down 4-2 with 3:12 left when they jumped on the power play. Riese Gaber scored on a deflection in front on an Aidan Fulp shot to make it a 4-3 game. Less than a minute after, Matthew Kopperud banged away at a loose puck in the crease and was able to get it past Gibson Homer to tie things up for Dubuque.

-Homer had a phenomenal game for the U-17's and was arguably the top player on the ice. He stopped numerous high-quality chances for Dubuque as they outshot Team USA 38-29. Despite the shot discrepancy, the USA netminder was stout in between the pipes.

-Jack Devine scored twice in regulation and nearly had a hat trick. Both of his goals came on rebounds just outside the blue paint. Team USA, which usually showcases a lot of skill on their goals, was gritty to get the puck to the back of the net.

-With the power play goal in the game, Dubuque has now scored a power play goal in five straight games and six of seven on the season. The unit came in to the night operating at 36.8%. What has been even bigger than the overall success is when the Fighting Saints have succeeded a man up. They continue to get timely goals on the power play.

-The U-17's seem to be hitting their stride as with the win they have now grabbed three straight in the USHL. They have all been impressive victories as two have come against the top two teams in the East and the other was a 9-2 blowout win against the Youngstown Phantoms.

-Dubuque will have a chance to rest and reset before they start a six-game homestand. Dubuque has not played a home game since October 5th. The Fighting Saints will kick off the homestand with a Friday matchup against Omaha followed by their Saturday game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

-Though Dubuque dropped the contest, there are still the only team in the league without a regulation loss. The Waterloo Black Hawks lost to the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-1 to move to 7-1 on the season. There are no unbeatens left, but Dubuque has the chance to hold the longest point streak to start this season with a point or more on Friday.
