[Macon Ga.] - The Macon Trax of the WHA2 has signed defenseman Darwin Murray to a contract. Murray will arrive at camp Friday, Oct. 31 and be in uniform for the afternoon scrimmage.

The 6'1", 215-pound defenseman spent most of the month in the Rochester Americans camp of the American Hockey League (AHL). The 26-year-old looks to have a big 2003-2004 campaign after breaking his wrist early last season.

Before getting injured, Murray played in 11 games for the Rockford IceHogs of the United Hockey League (UHL). The Toronto, Ont. native is entering his fourth year of pro hockey. He is considered a top notch stay at home defensemen.

"Darwin will be a solid defenseman for us." Head Coach Tommy Stewart said. "He is a very defensive-minded defenseman who will help our goalies out a lot."

Murray enters his fourth year of pro hockey. He has appeared in 69 games between Rockford and the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Fans will not have to wait long to see the newest Trax player in action. After scrimmaging Friday afternoon, the Trax will enjoy an off day Saturday before heading to Alabama for their lone exhibition game.

The Macon Trax will open their season versus the Lakeland Loggerheads in Florida on Nov. 6. The first ever WHA2 game will drop the puck at 7:05 pm. All games this season can be heard on www.irn.fm.

The Trax home opener is Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:35pm versus the Alabama Slammers. The Trax will hand out Burger King Magnet schedules to those who arrive early. Throughout the game fans will get to enjoy performances by the nationally renowned Zooperstars.
