Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings notched their fourth straight home victory of the season, defeating the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs before 2,664 fans at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The RiverKings, who moved to 5-1 on the campaign, came back from an early 1-0 deficit to best the Mudbugs, who were held scoreless for the last two periods of play.

Veteran Memphis defenseman Derek Landmesser tucked a shot away past Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Ken Carroll early on in the third period of play to give the RiverKings the final margin of victory. Landmesser's goal, his first of the season, came on the power play, with assists from forwards Brian Tucker and Jerry Gernander.

RiverKings goaltender Shawn Conschafter, in his second professional start, played very effectively, stopping 18 of 19 shots to pick up his second win.

The RiverKings found themselves in shorthanded situations several times on the evening, as Bossier-Shreveport had seven power play opportunities throughout. But other than a first period goal by forward Jim Sprott on a slapshot from the blueline, the Mudbugs were left out in the cold offensively.

Memphis, which went 2 for 7 on the power play, got a goal from forward Jonathan Gagnon with only four seconds remaining in the first period to tie the game at one apiece. The goal, Gagnon's fourth, moved him into the team lead for goals scored on the young season.

The win put the RiverKings five points up on both the Mudbugs and fellow division rival Indianapolis in the Northeast Division. Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll picked up the loss, his second on the campaign.

Saturday's contest, also versus the Mudbugs, will start one hour later than previously scheduled. The start time, which was originally scheduled for 7:05 pm CST, was moved up an hour to accommodate security concerns at the DeSoto Civic Center, where President George W. Bush will be participating in a political rally earlier in the day. The new game start time will be 8:05 pm.

The doors will open to the general public at 7:00 pm, with a tailgate party hosted by the DeSoto Civic Center being held in the fountain courtyard from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Food and beverages will be sold. In addition, Drake from the "Drake and Zeke Show" on Rock 103 will be on hand for a live remote from 6-8 pm.

The RiverKings are also proud to be sponsoring Saturday's production of ‘The Wizard of Oz', as performed by the DeSoto Youth Theatre. The performance will take place at the DeSoto Civic Center Theatre at 2:00 pm. Any individual who presents a full or partial Memphis RiverKings ticket stub will receive a discounted price on admission.
