
Mudcats Take a Beating from Braves, 17-8

ZEBULON, NC - The Mississippi Braves pounded out 21 hits and 17 runs on Thursday night to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 17-8 at Five County Stadium.
Carolina (29-37) gave up a pair of first inning runs on a RBI double from Mauro Gomez and a Donell Linares single and after one it was 2-0 Braves.
Mudcat starter, Travis Webb (L 2-5) came back out for the second and after getting the first two outs with ease, he gave up a single to his counterpart, Erik Cordier which led to three two-out runs for the Braves and Carolina couldn't recover as they were down 5-0 after two.
The big blow of the game came in the fourth inning when Mississippi (28-37) scored seven times and sent 12 batters to the plate. The big hit of the inning came from Willie Cabrera who doubled home a pair in the seven run frame.
Carolina tried to make it interesting, as they scored five runs in the fifth off Braves starter Erik Cordier (W 5-4). After pitcher Federico Baez singled to begin the fame, Sean Daneilson singled with one out as did Sean Henry and Mike Costanzo drove home his second run of the night to cut the lead to 17-5. Carolina wasn't done yet as Brandon Yarbrough doubled home three, to cut the lead to 17-7.
Carolina added another run, but it would not be enough as they fell to Mississippi 17-8.
The series continues Friday night at 7:15 when the Mudcats send Scott Carroll to the mound and the Braves counter with Brandon Beachey.
