
Lookouts Throttle Diamond Jaxx Thursday

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 17, 2010) - Chattanooga scored four runs in the first, five in the third and five more in the seventh inning to beat the Jaxx 14-2. The Lookouts (31-35) pounded out a season high 22 hits and it was also the most the Diamond Jaxx (38-28) had allowed. The win was the first against the Jaxx this season in seven chances for Chattanooga. Tennessee lost to Mobile 12-6 meaning the Jaxx remain two games back with three to play in the first half.
Eight Lookouts hitters tallied multi-hit games and eight also had RBI's on Thursday night. Dee Gordon, Jamie Pedroza and Elian Herrera each had three-hit games, while Corey Smith was 4-for-6. Eddie Perez had two hits and drove in four for the victorious Lookouts. Brandon Haveman and Ralph Henriquez had three-hit games and were the only Jaxx hitters with multi-hit affairs. Scott Savastano was 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games.
In Mauricio Robles' (5-4) shortest outing of the season, he took the loss. Robles lasted just 2.1 innings and gave up eight earned runs on 10 hits. Each being season highs. Jesus Castillo (4-6) got the win for Chattanooga and went five innings. Castillo allowed two runs on eight hits and fanned six. Robert Rohrbaugh was great out of the pen for West Tenn and worked 3.2 innings, giving up just one run. Rohrbaugh struck out a season high seven hitters.
Chattanooga got out of the gates in a hurry by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning against Mauricio Robles. Eddy Perez, Corey Smith, Kyle Russell and Scott Van Slyke had RBI's in the inning and the Lookouts jumped out to a 4-0 advantage. Robles threw 38 pitches in the first frame.
The Lookouts took out Diamond Jaxx starter Robles in the third, after scoring five more runs. The Lookouts, at one point, had six consecutive hits in the inning and went on top, 9-0 on the Jaxx.
The Jaxx finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Carlos Triunfel singled in Brandon Haveman to score the Jaxx first run of the game. Then, with two outs, Carlos Peguero scored Triunfel with a single to make it 9-2.
The Chattanooga Lookouts pushed the game out of reach in the top of the seventh inning by scoring five runs on new Diamond Jaxx pitcher, Steven Richard. The five run inning pushed the lead to 14-2. The Jaxx tied a season high by committing five errors on Thursday night as well.
The Jaxx will look to rebound on Friday night as the two teams meet for a 7:05 tilt at Pringles Park. RHP Michael Pineda (7-1, 2.43) takes the hill for the Jaxx and RHP Tim Sexton (3-5, 4.31) goes for the Lookouts. Friday night there will be a post game fireworks extravaganza, presented by WBBJ ABC 7 following the game. Also, it is Girls Night Out, presented by Mam'selle. It is WBBJ Family night and there is a Girl Scout campout after the game.
