Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Joe Maloney launched a towering, two-run home run to lift the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a 7-5 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Sunday night at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans rallied from three down to finish the first half 40-29. The Mudcats come into the All-Star break 22-48.

Ryan Harvey (6-1) picked up the win in relief by tossing a scoreless top of the ninth. Grant Sides (2-3) was stuck with a tough loss after the home run off Fabio Martinez scored an inherited runner.

The Mudcats took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back singles by Paddy Matera and Zack MacPhee. Myrtle Beach responded with the first of three two-out doubles to score a run in the bottom half.

Leading 2-1 in the sixth, Tony Wolters singled on a shallow roller up the third base line. Wolters stole second before Luigi Rodriguez worked the count for a walk. Matera followed with a double to left, scoring Wolters for a 3-1 lead. MacPhee drew a walk to load the bases, and a sacrifice fly to center by Bryson Myles scored Rodriguez for a 4-1 advantage.

Myrtle Beach wasted no time in rallying in the bottom half. The Pelicans recorded three straight singles off Francisco Valera to cut the lead to two. With two out, and two in scoring position, Jake Skole laced a double to center that tied the game 4-4.

The game turned wacky in the seventh. Jordan Smith singled and stole second. With Bo Greenwell batting, Pelicans' manager Jason Wood was ejected by plate umpire J.J. January arguing about a controversial foul ball that would have led to an out. Greenwell followed with a fly to deep right.

Smith tagged at second, and advanced to third base. The throw from Preston Beck in right bounced away from Drew Robinson covering the bag, and Smith scored on the error for a 5-4 lead.

Myrtle Beach was, once again, able to tie the game at five on a two-out double. This time, Maloney ripped one up the third base chalk into left, setting up his ninth inning heroics.

The Mudcats enter a four-day break with the Carolina/California League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 18th, in San Jose Calif. The team returns to action on Friday night, June 21st, with a road trip to Potomac. The Mudcats return home on June 24th for a four-game series with the Frederick Keys.
