NEWS & NOTES:

- About Last Night - The Carolina Mudcats knocked off Myrtle Beach 5-1. Kyle Blair dealt five scoreless innings in relief for his third straight win. Tony Wolters and Tyler Cannon paced the offense with two hits apiece.

- Double Dips - The Mudcats and Pelicans play their second doubleheader of the series this evening. The Pelicans swept the first twin bill at Pelicans Ballpark, winning 1-0 and 10-1. The Mudcats split doubleheaders against Frederick and Salem at home.

- A Flare for Blair - Right-hander Kyle Blair notched his third straight win by shutting out Myrtle Beach over five innings Friday night. Since giving up 7 runs to Frederick on May 23, Blair has allowed just four runs over his last three outings (14.2 innings).

- Happy Birthday - Infielder Tony Wolters turns 20-years-old today. Wolters enters Saturday with a 4-game hitting streak. The third round pick has 3 multi-hit efforts during this time, hitting .471 (8x17) with 5 RBI.

- Hoist the Cannon - Add two more hits to Tyler Cannon's already terrific week. The Virginia product has 8 knocks in his last 12 at-bats. He cracked his first home run Thursday, and nearly had his second on Friday night. He's plated 8 runs over his last five outings.

- More Hitting Nuggets - Carolina's offense continues to stay as hot as the summer temps. Ronny Rodriguez is on a 6-game tear. The infielder is hitting .429 during his hit streak, with a double and three RBI. Justin Toole is hitting .455 (5x11) in his last four games.
