Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
TOPEKA HANGS ON â On Thursday night, the Mudbugs suffered their first defeat of the 2004-2005 season as they fell to the Topeka Tarantulas 3-2 at the CenturyTel Center.  The Mudbugs mounted a strong attack in the game's final minutes, but were unable to tie the contest as Topeka won its first game in franchise history after losing their first three games of the new year. In the second period, Tab Lardner scored to give the Tarantulas a 1-0 lead.  Rookie goaltender Dwayne Bateman made several key stops in the middle period to preserve the Topeka edge going into the third.  Goals by John Donnelly and Dallas Flaman would then increase their lead to 3-0, but Dan Wildfong would answer twice to pull the Mudbugs to within one.  But the Tarantulas held on for the 3-2 victory and Ken Carroll suffered the loss to drop to 1-1-0 on the season.  BLAZERS FIGHT OFF THE BUGS â Mike Beausoleil scored two goals and goaltender Sean Connors made 31 saves as the Oklahoma City Blazers defeated the Mudbugs on Friday night, 2-1 at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.  In a rough first period which featured four separate fights, Beausoleil gave the Blazers an early 1-0 lead with a slap shot from inside the blue line which beat Mudbugs goaltender Jeff Blair at 18:27.  Then early in the second period, the Montreal native struck again with a power play goal at 2:19, but Forbes MacPherson got the Bugs on the board just minutes later with a man advantage goal of his own. But Connors remained perfect for the rest of the night and the Blazers survived a late penalty to hang on for the 2-1 win.    The game was the Blazer debut of Dallas Stars forward Brenden Morrow, a five-year member of the NHL franchise.  BLAIR SHINES IN FORT WORTH â Martin Paquet tied the game with just 3:31 remaining in regulation and NHL'er Brad Lukowich scored the shootout game-winning goal to give the Fort Worth Brahmas a 2-1 win over the Mudbugs on Saturday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.  Jeff Blair made his second consecutive start for the Mudbugs and was spectacular with eight consecutive power play chances given to the Brahmas and no goals against. Chris Brassard scored the lone goal for the Mudbugs on a deflection from a Wes Blevins blue line shot at 12:15 of the third period. Blair finished the game with 35 saves, but suffered the shootout loss as the Mudbugs fell to 1-2-1 in the 2004-05 season.
