Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss â The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings came up short at home for the first time this season on Thursday night, losing to the archrival Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-0 before a crowd of 2,622 at the DeSoto Civic Center.
Jason Basile scored on a deflection off a shot by forward Chris Minard in the first period to give the Mudbugs a 1-0 lead that they would never relinquish.
The Mudbugs entered the night with rookie goaltender David Haun between the pipes, making his first start for Bossier-Shreveport since he was brought from Austin via trade. But Haun went down with an unidentified injury in the first period, so veteran Ken Carroll stepped in for the Mudbugs.
Carroll, who has played in every Mudbugs game this season, was perfect in the crease, stopping all 17 shots he faced to pick up the victory, his eighth of the season.
The Mudbugs, who moved within seven points of the RiverKings in the Northeast Division standings, also had goals scored by forwards Colin Kendall and Chad Spurr. Spurr ended his night with two points, the only player on either side with more than one point for the game.
Memphis's Shawn Conschafter picked up his second loss of the season, stopping 22 of 25 shots.
The RiverKings dropped to 12-4-0 on the season. Their 24 points still leads the CHL. Bossier-Shreveport moved to 8-3-1 for the year.
The RiverKings will face off against the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, November 21 at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center before traveling to Bossier-Shreveport for a rematch with the Mudbugs this Saturday.
