Barracudas Suffer First Loss

Sunday Nov. 23, 2003 vs. Macon Trax 4:05pm at Macon Centreplex

Jacksonville makes their first trip of the season to Macon to face the Trax. The Barracudas are coming off a 5-2 loss last Saturday in Miami. The Barracudas welcome defenseman Mike Johnson to the lineup for the first time this season. Johnson has missed the first three games with a thigh bruise. The last meeting between Jacksonville and Macon was March 12, 2003, a 6-4 Trax victory. Barracudas goaltender Nate Ziemski made 35 saves in the loss.

LAST WEEK:

Saturday Nov. 15, 2003 vs. Miami Manatees (5-2 Loss) Miami Arena The Barracudas were handed their first loss of the season 5-2 to Miami. Barracudas goaltender Brandon Snee, earlier names WHA2 Goaltender of the Week, gave up five goals on 16 shots. Backup goaltender Nate Ziemski relieved Snee to start the third period and stopped all 15 shots he faced.

The Barracudas were 0-8 on the power play while Miami scored on three of their seven chances.

Scoring for the Barracudas were defenseman Mark Phenow, who picked up his second of the season and winger Jamie Miller who netted his first of the year.

CUDAS BITES:

The Barracudas will open their home schedule Nov. 28 vs. Miami Manatees. The JEDC Sports and Entertainment Board sponsor the first sporting event ever in the brand new Veteran's Memorial Arena.

The Barracudas are also home on Saturday, Nov. 29 vs. Macon Trax. It's a special matinee time of 12:35.

Fans who buy tickets to Saturday's game can stick around following the game for a Post-Game Skating Party from 3-5pm sponsored by Comcast. During the Open Skate, the Florida vs. Florida State Football game will be on the Jumbotron.

TEAM NOTES:

Jacksonville is tied with Macon in the standings with a 2-1 record.

Jacksonville wraps up a four-game road trip to start the WHA2 season on Sunday in Macon. The Barracudas debut at home in the brand new Veteran's Memorial Arena on Friday, Nov. 28th vs. Miami Manatees.

Defenseman Mike Johnson makes his season debut Sunday after missing the first three games with a thigh bruise.

STANDOUTS:

Kory Barker is tied for the WHA2 league in assists with five.

After scoring only one goal last season in 46 games with Kalamazoo of the UHL, defenseman Mark Phenow has already tallied two in the first three games.

Rookie goaltender Brandon Snee is second in the league in minutes played (160:47) and is second in the league with a 2.99 goals against average.

Center Kory Baker is tied for fifth in the league in points with six.

BARRACUDAS PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

NATE ZIEMSKI - He relieved starter Brandon Snee to start the third period last Saturday in Miami. Ziemski stopped all 15 shots he faced as the Barracudas third period comeback fell short.
