Mud Hens Score Nine Unanswered, Win Series

TOLEDO, OHIO - The Toledo Mud Hens scored nine unanswered runs, including a six-run seventh, en route to a 9-5 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field. Jason Rogers belted his second home run of the season, and Jose Osuna tallied three hits in the loss.

With the game knotted at three in the seventh, Toledo (8-3) scored six runs on three hits, three walks and an error. The Mud Hens sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning, handing Indianapolis (3-8) its third consecutive loss and eighth in nine games.

Cody Dickson (0-1) failed to retire any of the three batters he faced in the disastrous seventh, issuing a pair of walks ahead of a sacrifice bunt. On the bunt, Dickson attempted to get the lead runner at third base, but his errant throw sailed into Toledo's bullpen, opening the floodgates.

Pat Light replaced Dickson and didn't fare much better. The right-hander yielded a two-run double to Omar Infante and run-scoring singles off the bats of Matt Murton and John Hicks before Efren Navarro capped the outburst with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Tribe grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first against William Cuevas on an RBI double by Osuna. Indy added to its early advantage in the second as Gift Ngoepe and Austin Meadows each drove in a run with base hits.

The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Michael Almanzar took Tribe southpaw Steven Brault deep for a two-run blast. Two innings later, Toledo tied the game at three on an RBI single by Navarro.

Down 9-3, Indy's Rogers provided the final margin with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to straightaway center off Edward Mujica.

Angel Nesbitt (1-1) earned the win with 2.0 shutout innings in relief of Cuevas who gave up three earned runs on seven hits over 5.0 frames. Brault took a no-decision after surrendering three earned runs on five hits over 6.0 innings pitched.

The Indians, along with the rest of the International League, have an off day on Monday. Indianapolis opens up a six-game homestand on Tuesday against Durham. Right-hander Drew Hutchison (0-1, 7.84) will start for the Tribe, opposite Bulls right-hander Chih-Wei Hu (1-0, 1.64). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
