Bats Couldn't Get Bats Going, Lose 8-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Louisville Bats (5-6) drop game four of this series on Easter Sunday to the Clippers (6-5) 8-0. This win by the Clippers stops the Bats from sweeping them in this series.

Right-handed pitcher Barrett Astin (0-1, 5.40) of the Bats struggled early on and couldn't settle in. Astin gave up three runs, all earned, on three innings pitched, giving up six hits, one walk, one home run, and recorded three strikeouts on 51 pitches. Alejandro Chacin came in for relief in the fourth inning for the Bats throwing one inning, recording one strikeout, gave up one walk, and no runs allowed.

The Clippers right-handed pitcher Mike Clevenger was stellar on the mound, only gave up three hits, recorded eight strikeouts, and allowed only one walk on 98 pitches.

The Clippers started the scoring early by plating one run in the first inning off a sacrifice fly, scoring Tyler Naquin from third base. The Clippers tacked on two more runs in the third inning with two hits, making the score 3-0 Clippers.

For the Bats, Ismael Guillon makes his Triple-A debut, while Austin Brice is making his Bats debut. Guillon lasted only one and one-third inning giving up five runs, on six hits, and striking out two. Brice pitched one and two-thirds innings giving up one hit, one walk, and recorded two strikeouts on 32 pitches.

The Clippers added five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, when all nine batters came to plate. The highlight of the inning was a two-run home run by Erik Kratz for the Clippers.

The Bats (5-6) will have the day off tomorrow a will resume play on Tuesday at Louisville Slugger field in a three-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders. Tuesday's projected starters will be Rob Wooten (1-0, 2.92) for the Bats and Caleb Smith (0-0,1.80) for the Railriders. First pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.
