Mud Hens Drop Second Straight Game in Durham

Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Thursday night in Durham proved to be another forgetful night for the Toledo Mud Hens, as they dropped their second straight game to the Bulls. After losing by a final of 17-2 on Wednesday, things didn't get much better for the Hens as they lost 9-1. In his second rehabilitation start since joining Toledo, Kyle Lobstein was knocked around for six earned runs on 12 hits in only three and two-thirds innings on the mound.

Lobstein pitched through traffic on the base paths all night, and the Bulls made him pay for it. In the first inning, he loaded the bases with no outs, but induced a double play ball from J.P. Arencibia to get out of the jam.

The Mud Hens got their only run of the evening in the second inning, courtesy of some heads up base running by Marc Krauss. Krauss led off the inning with a walk, and then stole second base for his second steal of the season. While stealing, the throw down to second was thrown into the outfield, and Krauss took third on the error. With that, an easy single from Manny Pina scored Krauss to give the Hens a 1-0 lead.

Durham answered the Hens' offense in a big way. Lobstein wasn't as fortunate in the second inning at working out of a jam. With two outs, he allowed five runs, giving Durham a quick 5-1 lead after two innings. Lobstein was able to get through the third inning unscathed, but gave up his sixth run of the night in the fourth to earn the early hook.

After that, Angel Nesbitt relieved Lobstein in the fourth inning to get the final out and limit the damage to only one run. Nesbitt didn't fare very well after that, though. He ended up working only an inning and two-thirds, allowing three additional runs to give Durham a 9-1 lead.

Toledo takes on the Durham Bulls on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in the third game of the series. The Mud Hens look to avoid the series sweep.
