Batavia Muckdogs News Release

MAHONING VALLEY, OH- The Muckdogs won the series against the Scrappers by taking games one and three of the series. It was the first series loss of the season for the Scrappers, and as a result Batavia are now winners of five of their last seven.

The Muckdogs had played a close game when they were finishing the suspended game from Thursday night. They resumed while they were down 3-0 in the top of the fifth, and would tie things up in the sixth, thanks in part to a two-run, opposite-field home run. However, they would give up three more runs in the bottom of the seventh. While Batavia was down to their final three outs in the ninth, they tied the game for their second three-run inning. The bottom of the ninth resulted in a situation with runners advancing to second and third with two outs, but a fielding error by Demetrius Sims would result in the winning run crossing the plate, and with no play to be made at first, the game ended with a walk off win for the Scrappers.

The game that was originally scheduled for Friday then became a seven-inning game. Manuel Rodriguez would make the spot start for Batavia. He had been the reliever for Batavia who would take up multiple innings out of the bullpen. His start took up three and two-thirds innings and would only surrender one run. The remainder of the Batavia bullpen would piece the game together and would shut the Scrappers down for the rest of the game. The Batavia pitching staff put up season-best numbers in runs given up and hits allowed, with one and four, respectively.

The Muckdogs' runs would come in the second and third innings. The first of the two came in the second inning. Michael Donadio drew a walk with one out and would go first to third on a single from Luke Jarvis to right field. Igor Baez then hit a ball to the warning tracj that allowed Donadio to score easily. In the third, Albert Guaimaro continued his bigtime hitting with a one-out triple. Denis Karad drove him in with one of his two singles in the ballgame.

The Muckdogs pitching staff then shut things down after the third. The only run that the Scrappers scored was unearned, as the baserunner reached on a dropped fly ball. They only allowed one hit through the final four innings, and only walked two batters all game to give Batavia the 2-1 win. Batavia now plays host to State College for three games, whom they swept last time they met in Happy Valley.
