Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs open up a three game series against the State College Spikes. Batavia has now won five of their last seven games after taking the series from the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. After an off day, Batavia goes to Connecticut for a three game trip against the Tigers.
That was yesterday- In the lowest scoring game of the season, Batavia was able to take the series from the first place Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Batavia got an RBI from Denis Karas, who had two hits. Igor Baez also drove in an RBI. Batavia gave up a season-low four hits in the game as well.
Offense Overload- In ten of the first 20 games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion and Sean Reynolds sitting in second place with 15 runs scored, and Demetrius Sims in third with 13.
Missing Encarnacion- The Muckdogs' offense has been missing Jerar Encarnacion, who has been on a tear to start off the season he was on an 11 game hit streak before going down with injury. The Muckdogs have crossed the six run threshold only twice in the nine games that Encarnacion has missed. Batavia is 4-5 since Encarnacion left the lineup.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 12 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 3-9 in those contests.
Seldom Spikes Sightings- There are only eight more meetings between the Muckdogs and the Spikes after today's ballgame. Only three of the meetings will take place in Happy Valley.
Recent Roster Action- On July 4th, RHP Peyton Culbertson and SS Gunnar Schubert were promoted from the GCL Marlins.
Marlins Update- Mark Reynolds came on to pinch hit for the Nationals in the bottom of the ninth against Miami. He went yard off Kyle Barraclough to give Washington the walk off win over the Marlins.
