Muckdogs Game Notes

July 1, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release

Today's Game- Batavia opens up a three game series against the West Virginia Black Bears. Today is the first of a three game series against the Pirates' affiliate. Chris Vallimont, the starting pitcher for Batavia is making his professional debut. Batavia then goes on the road for a three game series against Mahoning Valley.

That was yesterday- In another low-scoring contest, the Muckdogs got swept for the first time this season by dropping a 4-2 game to Auburn. Batavia scored their two runs on just six hits, both one notch above the season lows they set the night before.

Offense Overload- In eight of the first 14 games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion sitting in first place with 15 runs scored, and Sean Reynolds in third with 12.

Exploding Encarnacion- Jerar Encarnacion has been on a tear to start off the season. On his current eleven game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .479. He's second in the league in hits (23). He's second in doubles (6), fourth in extra base hits (7) and sits atop the league with his .479 average and second with his .500 OBP. He also has the most defensive assists by any outfielder in the league with three, all coming on June 19th against West Virginia.

Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on ten different occasions so far this season, and have gone 2-8 in those contests.

Turning up the heat- Batavia's offense in the last five games has seen more batters pick things up on offense. Sean Reynolds has added a .368 average with seven hits and four RBI's in the last five games. Michael Donadio has also hit .375 in that span with six hits and three RBIs'

Familiar foes- The Black Bears and the Muckdogs will meet ten more times this season after today's matchup. The next meeting arrives on August 5th-7th in Morgantown.

Recent Roster Action- On June 30th, Dakota Bennett was sent to the GCL Marlins, and Zach Wolf was assigned to the Batavia Muckdogs.

Marlins Update- The Marlins topped the Mets last night by a 5-2 score. Former Muckdog Brian Anderson ripped a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom. JT Realmuto continued his stellar season with a two-run double that would seal the deal for the fish.
