Mountaineers Lose Third Straight

July 22, 2022 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Vermont Mountaineers News Release

Lynn MA, - The Mountaineers dropped their third game in a row with a three nothing loss to the North Shore Navigators during game two of their three game away stand.

Vermont had very little offense to speak of tonight as they were shut out against the Navigators. The Mountaineers recorded a total of four hits through nine innings of play compared to North Shore's eight.

The two teams were scoreless in a pitchers duel until the bottom of the third inning when North Shore scored the first run of the game. The Navigators nearly scored two but a stunning throw from Jack Cone (William and Mary College of Fairfax Station, Virginia) beat the runner to the plate to make it a one run game going into the fourth inning.

The Navigators would score runs in the fifth and sixth inning as well to get them their three runs on the night. Timely hitting and unfortunate circumstances would be the downfall of Vermont tonight. Connor Bertsch, Stan DeMartinis III, and Jake McElroy all recorded RBI's for North Shore.

Anthony DeFabbia (Stetson University, Bronxville, New York) was dealt the loss on the night going five and two thirds innings, giving up three runs, (two earned) on six hits and recorded six strikeouts on the night.

Vermont stranded runners on third base three times tonight on a very low offensive night. The total of four hits on the night for the Vermont squad would not be enough.

North Shores Todd Tringale got the win tonight going seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits and had five strikeouts. Nathaniel Espelin came in for relief and picked up exactly where Tringale left off. Espelin went two innings giving up no runs and no hits.

Vermont drops to 30-9 on the season with the loss and will travel to Newport tomorrow to take on the Coastal Division leading Newport Gulls. Game time will be at 3:00pm tomorrow, Make sure to catch it all on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
