Craven and Crossen Reign Victorious in 2022 NECBL All-Star Game Fan Vote
July 22, 2022 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- After garnering the most votes in their respective divisions over the course of the last four days, Sanford RHP Brian Craven (Davidson) and Martha's Vineyard infielder Danny Crossen (Northeastern) have been named the winners of the 2022 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game Fan Vote, the league announced Friday morning.
Craven, who just finished his senior season with Davidson, and Crossen, a rising Redshirt Senior at Northeastern, will both participate in the 2022 NECBL All-Star Game on July 24, hosted by the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. The day begins at 2:00 p.m. with the Home Run Derby before the All-Star Game takes place at 4:30 p.m. For more information regarding NECBL All-Star festivities, visit http://asg22.necbl.com/.
In its seventh rendition, the NECBL Fan Vote gave the league's fans the chance to choose the final All-Star for each division. After the initial 29-player rosters were revealed last Sunday for both the North and South Divisions, each team put forward one representative not selected to the All-Star Game roster. The winner of the vote from each division was added to Sunday's roster in Martha's Vineyard.
The voting period began Monday at midnight and ended Thursday night at midnight, giving fans four days to make their votes. In the Northern Division, Brian Craven led from the start and ended with 1,115 total votes, over five hundred more than the next closest nominee. In the South, Danny Crossen was in a tight battle for most of the week but pulled away on the final day. Crossen ended with 1,215 votes, beating his closest competitor by almost four-hundred votes.
Craven's selection brought Sanford's total 2022 All-Star Game participants to seven, which ranks first in the Northern Division. Crossen became the eighth Shark to be chosen to play in their home stadium on July 24. Martha's Vineyard will have the most representatives from any team at The Shark Tank.
Craven has been a staple of Sanford's bullpen this summer. In fourteen appearances and nineteen innings, the Massachusetts native sports just a 1.42 ERA with four saves and two wins. He has twenty strikeouts while only allowing twelve walks and fourteen hits. Craven has allowed an earned run on just three occasions. The Davidson man ranks fifth on the Mainers in ERA and fourth in innings pitched for Sanford's primary relievers. The pitcher had a 3.60 ERA in seven appearances with Davidson last season.
Crossen was consistent with Martha's Vineyard during his twenty-nine games so far this season. In ninety-nine at bats, the primary third baseman batted .273 with twenty-seven hits. Crossen has also walked sixteen times, ranking second on the Sharks. His high .395 on base percentage helped Martha's Vineyard manufacture runs. The Massachusetts native has seventeen runs scored and twelve RBIs while stealing five bases. During the Sharks' eight-game win streak from July 13-20, Crossen had three multi-hit games. For the season, the Northeastern man has nine games with two or more hits. He has reached base in all but six of his appearances. With the Huskies in the spring, Crossen had twenty RBIs and fifteen runs in thirty-five games.
The NECBL All-Star Game provides a platform to showcase the league's top talent in an exciting afternoon and evening. Players participating will be able to make their mark in front of scouts from every Major League Baseball (MLB) organization.
Tickets for the event are $5 for kids, $10 for general admission and $15 for the reserved grandstand.
The 2022 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby will be streamed live on the NECBL Network.
