Mountaineers Continue to Roll

July 11, 2022 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Vermont Mountaineers News Release

Montpelier, VT - Vermont wins their twenty-fourth game of the season and improves to twenty games over five hundred. A big 7-1 nearly all Mountaineers victory against Keene, sends the Vermont squad to an impressive 24-4 record on the season.

Vermont did what they have done so many times this year and got out ahead early. A three-run first inning was only the beginning of the offense for the Mountaineers. Vermont followed up the three-run first inning with another two runs in the second to make it a five-nothing lead.

Christopher Kahler ( George Washington University, Coral Springs, Florida) helped the cause, going three innings with four strikeouts and giving up no runs. When Kahler ran into trouble, Brendan Patterman ( Stony Brook University, Emerson, New Jersey) was there to calm things down. Coming in with the bases loaded, Patterman recorded two pop-outs and a ground out all with the bases loaded with no outs to keep Keene off the board.

Keene was unable to hang up any runs until the eighth inning when the shutout was finally erased. Carter Mathison ( Indiana University, Fort Wayne, Indiana) drove in the single run for Keene while Lucas Costello ( Wake Forest University, Miami, Florida) was the only runner to cross on the night.

Vermont tallied up two more runs in the fourth inning, gaining their final two runs of the ballgame. A new face in the lineup for Vermont Cameron Gill ( Wofford College, Alpharetta Georgia) was a big part of the victory. Gill had a double, and triple and was great on the defensive end behind the plate. The catcher also scored twice and recorded an RBI in his debut.

Vermont's Brendan Patterman ( Stony Brook University, Emerson, New Jersey) was awarded the win tonight, going three innings with only one hit, three strikeouts, and allowing no runs. On the flip side, Keene's Zachary Davidson ( Radford University, Hartsburg, Missouri) got the loss while going four innings, giving up seven runs, six of which were earned. Davidson had no strikeouts and gave up four hits with four walks in his outing.

Vermont continues to be a dominant team and improves to 24-4 on the season. The Mountaineers will take a short rest day tomorrow before facing Mystic at Recreation Field on Wednesday. Be sure to tune in and catch all the action of Wednesday's game on the NECBL broadcast network.
