THE GAME

The Sacramento Mountain Lions and the Omaha Nighthawks are both coming off their first victories of the young United Football League season.

This is a game that features lots of former NFL stars including Sacramento's Daunte Culpepper and Omaha's Jeff Garcia, Ahman Green and Cato June. Omaha also features former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett as a back-up to Green at running back.

Both Culpepper and Garcia threw game-winning touchdowns in the final minute a week ago. Culpepper threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Rod Windsor with 31 seconds remaining, giving Sacramento a 24-20 victory over visiting Florida on Saturday night. Garcia completed a 12-yard scoring pass to former Green Bay Packers receiver Robert Ferguson with six seconds remaining, helping his team beat visiting Hartford 27-26.

Both Culpepper and Garcia tossed three touchdowns last week and Culpepper set a UFL-record with 374 yards passing. Culpepper is 47-for-82 for 548 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions (83.8 passer rating) this season.

THE SERIES

Omaha is a new UFL franchise so this is the first meeting in the history of these two teams. The Mountain Lions played last year as the California Redwoods, playing home games in San Francisco and San Jose.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 1

Sacramento wide receiver Taye Biddle vs. Omaha cornerback Ricardo Colclough - Biddle caught three passes for 109 yards in Saturday's victory over Florida, who he played for a year ago. Colclough was busy in his first UFL game, recording six tackles, breaking up a pass and returning four kickoffs for a total of 110 yards.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 2

Omaha fullback Rendrick Taylor vs. Sacramento middle linebacker Zeke Moreno - Moreno had a breakout game in his first UFL start in Week 2 (11 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one pass breakup) and Taylor was solid in his UFL debut (receiving touchdown, lead blocker for a running game which had 83 yards).

CULPEPPER SPREADING THE BALL AROUND

Sacramento quarterback Daunte Culpepper set a league record with 374 passing yards on Saturday and he completed passes to eight teammates in the process. He found running back Cory Ross eight times for 57 yards while receiver Otis Amey caught seven balls for 94 yards. Taye Biddle made the most of his three receptions (109 yards) while Rod Windsor turned two of his three catches (41 yards) into touchdowns. Joe West turned his two catches into 41 yards while tight end Nate Lawrie made his one reception count (23 yards). Eddy Newton and Darrell Strong also caught short passes for the Mountain Lions in the victory over Florida.

WINDSOR CONTINUES TO EXCEL AT RECEIVER

Mountain Lions receiver Rod Windsor caught three passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday night against Florida. His second touchdown reception, after a nice pump fake from Daunte Culpepper, was for 33 yards and gave Sacramento the lead with 31 seconds to go. Windsor has now caught eight passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns through two games this season. Windsor was a star at Western New Mexico State, catching 81 passes for 1,118 yards and six touchdowns as a senior. He was the quarterback the year before, leading the team in both passing (1,361 yards) and rushing (886 yards). Windsor then starred as a receiver in the Arena Football League before joining the Mountain Lions this year.

MOUNTAIN LIONS OFFENSE LOOKS TO STAY HOT

The Mountain Lions scored 17 points in the fourth quarter on Saturday night, after scoring a total of 17 points in the first seven quarters of the season. Kicker Fabrizio Scaccia got the fourth-quarter scoring going on Saturday night with a 54-yard field goal and Culpepper followed up with touchdown passes to Darrell Strong (two yards) and then Windsor.

SACRAMENTO NOT GAINING MUCH ON THE GROUND

The Mountain Lions have combined for just 89 yards rushing on 41 carries through two games. Hartford held Cory Ross the the Sacramento-ground attack to 35 yards on 20 carries and Florida held the Mountain Lions to 54 yards on 21 carries. Ross has rushed 28 times for 50 yards this year although he did lead the team with eight receptions against the Tuskers on Saturday.

NEW ADDITION TO THE MOUNTAIN LIONS

Sacramento put receiver Eddy Newton on reserve because of an injury on Monday and brought in receiver Marcus Maxwell to replace him. Maxwell, who starred at Oregon, began his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers (2005, 2006 - played in total of four games). Maxwell, 27, also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Bucs and the Baltimore Ravens and starred in NFL Europe. Maxwell was cut by the Seattle Seahawks in August of this year.
