Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Mountain Lions cornerback Lionel Smith has signed a contract to play with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.
Smith-the first UFL player to sign with an NFL team this season-spent time with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M before signing with the Mountain Lions in September.
Though he didn't start in Sacramento's season opener last Friday, he recorded one tackle and broke up one pass in the Mountain Lions' 24-20 loss to Omaha at Raley Field.
The Mountain Lions hit the road to face the Virginia Destroyers Friday night before returning home Wednesday, Oct. 10, to face the Las Vegas Locomotives at 6 p.m. at Raley Field.
To purchase tickets to any of the Mountain Lions' three remaining 2012 home games, visit ticketmaster.com or Raley Field's Round Table Pizza Ticket Office.
