Hartford Colonials News Release
Hartford Colonials players and cheerleaders stopped by the Simsbury office of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. this week to help kick off the company's United Way campaign. The event, Hartford Bands Together, is a battle of the bands style concert made up entirely of employee musicians from The Hartford. Fans voted for their favorite bands by making a donation to the United Way Community Campaign.
Colonials players Andre Dixon, Ryan Glasper, Frantz Joseph, Taylor Mehlhaff, Ryan Palmer, Asaph Schwapp and Kyle Whitehurst attended the festive event in their home game jerseys and signed autographs for employees. Colonials Cheerleaders Allee, Nikki and Heather handed out ice cream and pocket schedules to employees.
"Like The Hartford, the Colonials are also very committed to community and very involved with United Way," said The Hartford's Jonathan Bennett, executive sponsor of the company's United Way campaign. "One thing that has been part of our 200-year history - and is still strong today - is our proud tradition of giving back to the community. We are proud to partner with the Colonials and support the United Way in their efforts to make a meaningful, measurable difference in the communities where we live and work."
Colonials t-shirts were tossed into the crowd and employees won prizes, including tickets to the Oct. 16th game against the Omaha Nighthawks at Rentschler Field and a special Colonials Road Trip package to the Oct. 23rd game in Las Vegas.
"On behalf of the organization, I'd just like to thank you for allowing us to come here and be a part of something much bigger than ourselves," Colonials strong safety Ryan Glasper told the crowd at The Hartford. "Earlier this month a lot of us had the opportunity to assist the United Way in their efforts to give back to the community. We went to the Boys & Girls Club in New Britain, Connecticut. It was the same Boys & Girls Club that I attended when I was a young boy. It was definitely a moving and self-fulfilling experience."
