EAST HARTFORD, CT - June 15, 2011 - The Hartford Colonials signed cornerback Ahmad Carroll and long snapper Jared Retkofsky to contracts for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms were not disclosed.
The Colonials also released linebacker Adam Seward, who retired.
Carroll, an Atlanta native, was a first-round draft pick (No. 25 overall) by Green Bay in 2004 and spent three seasons with the Packers. He has also been with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2006) and New York Jets (2008-09). In 57 career games, he had 127 tackles and three interceptions.
Last season, Carroll spent time with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. In 2008 he played for the Orlando Predators in the Arena Football League before signing with the Jets.
Retkofsky, a native of Wichita, KS, returns for his third season in the UFL. He played for the Colonials last year and the New York Sentinels in 2009. He had several stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the first in 2007 after signing as a free agent following the NFL draft that year.
Following a brief stint on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in 2007, Retkofsky resigned with the Steelers in 2008 and made his NFL debut Nov. 3 that season. He played in nine regular season games and all three games in the postseason, including a win in Super Bowl XLIII over Arizona. In 2009, Retkofsky appeared in two games with the Steelers.
The Colonials open the 2011 regular season Aug. 13 against the Virginia Destroyers at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. For more team information, please visit www.hartfordcolonials.com.
