Morris Recognized for Great Performances

November 9, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Black Hawks veteran Cale Morris was named the United States Hockey League's CCM Goaltender of the Week on Monday, following his efforts during Waterloo victories on Friday and Saturday.

Morris has held opponents to one goal apiece in each of the Hawks' last three games. That was the case Friday when he stopped 28 of 29 chances from the Sioux Falls Stampede during a 4-1 win. The road victory came in the same building where Morris won his first game as a Black Hawk last January. He followed up on Saturday by stopping 16 of 17 Omaha Lancers shots in a 5-1 home win. In total, the Larkspur, Colorado, native's save percentage for the weekend was 95.7%.

This is the second consecutive week a Black Hawk has been recognized as one of the USHL's Players of the Week. Ben Newhouse was awarded CCM Defenseman of the Week accolades last Monday. For Morris, this award represents the fourth time he has been the Goaltender of the Week since being traded to Waterloo last January, after claiming the honor three times in what remained of the 2014/15 campaign.

Committed to Notre Dame, Morris claimed a place on the All-USHL Third Team last season. Statistically he is among the league's top netminders once again this season. Morris has been in the crease for all six Black Hawks wins, a total which ties for second in the USHL. By other metrics, he ranks first in minutes played (669), second in total saves (262), third in goals-against average (2.06), and fifth in save percentage (91.9%).
