CCM USHL Players of the Week Named

The United States Hockey League announced the CCM Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 7 of the 2015-16 season. A pair of second year NHL Draft-eligible players take home awards while Tri-City's Mattias Goransson wins his second weekly honor. CCM Hockey is the official equipment partner of the USHL.

Forward: Carson Meyer - Tri-City Storm

2 GP: 3 goals, 2 assists, +2

Meyer, a second year NHL Draft-eligible forward, scored back-to-back goals Saturday night after putting up a goal and assist the evening prior. Meyer ranks third in scoring with 15 points and second in goals scored (9). Meyer only trails Ludvig Hoff in scoring by second year NHL Draft-eligible players in the USHL. Meyer has scored goals in every Tri-City road game this season and tied teammate Mattias Goransson with the most points scored in Week 7. Last season Meyer led the T1EHL with 51 points scored, and picked up his first career USHL point on an assist in his second game with Tri-City. The Powell, OH native previously played for the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets and is committed to play college hockey at Miami University.

Defenseman: Mattias Goransson - Tri-City Storm

Goransson earned his second Defenseman of the Week honor after leading all defenseman in scoring for Week 7. Goransson was on the ice for seven of eight Storm goals this weekend, and over the past six games has been on the ice for 15 of 18 Tri-City goals. On the season, Goransson has been on the ice for 23 of 35 Storm goals, while only ten goals have been sored against the defenseman including three empty-net goals. Goransson is now ranked sixth in USHL scoring and has the most points scored by a defenseman. The Grums, SWE native also is tied for the most goals scored by a defenseman (5). Goransson is committed to play college hockey at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Goaltender: Cale Morris - Waterloo Black Hawks

2 GP: 2-0-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .957 SV%

Morris won back-to-back starts this weekend stopping a combined 44 of 46 shots. Morris helped Waterloo stifle all nine of their opponents' power play opportunities for a perfect penalty kill on the weekend. The second year NHL Draft-eligible goaltender has started in net for the Waterloo Black Hawks in 11 of the team's 12 games this season. Morris currently ranks second in wins (6), third in GAA (2.06), and fifth in save percentage (.919) amongst USHL goaltenders. Morris also leads the USHL in minutes (669) and ranks second in saves (262). Dating back to last season, Morris has started in net 39 of the Black Hawks' last 40 games. Morris had a .937 SV% and 1.85 GAA in 28 games for Waterloo last season. The former Colorado Thunderbirds goaltender is committed to play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame.

A record 37 players were chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and more than 375 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world's foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
