Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - The second half of a home-and-home with the Kingston Frontenacs is on tap Sunday afternoon at the Yardmen Arena. Fresh off a 4-2 victory on Friday night in the limestone city, the Belleville Bulls are looking to defend their home ice and make it 2 in a row over their East Division rivals. After being named the CHL goaltender of the week, Charlie Graham is a perfect 3-0 with a 0.971 save percentage to begin the season. The first afternoon match up of the year is set for 4:05 PM.
Although the Frontenacs lead 40-19 in shots, it was the Bulls offence that was on display on Friday night. Kingston opened the scoring early as Corey Pawley scored his second of the campaign with helpers from Ryan Kujawinski and Samuel Schutt. Kingston had a couple chances on the power play later in the frame but Graham made some big saves to keep his club down 1 after 20 minutes.
The second period was a completely different story as the Bulls surged with 4 un answered goals to quiet the Frontenacs faithful. Veteran forward Niki Petti proved he can be dangerous scoring two in the stanza, the first from rookie Matt Luff and defenceman Stephen Harper and the second unassisted.
Wellington, Ontario native Alex Yuill buried his first of the season on the man advantage as he hammered home a slap shot from the blue line that had eyes and beat Lucas Peressini. The Bulls weren't finished though, Justin Lemcke also got into the action scoring his second of the season on the power play. Andrew Ming and Michael Cramarossa picked up helpers on the play. With 11 penalties in the frame, the rivalry was in full effect as Bulls lead 4-1 heading into the third.
Kingston really applied the pressure to start the final period as they peppered Graham with a number of scoring chances. While the puck stayed in the Belleville zone for most of the period, the Fronts did solve the Toronto, Ontario native just over six minutes in. Samuel Schutt added another point and scored his first of the season with assists from Conor McGlynn and Corey Pawley. That's all Belleville would give up however, as the Bulls handed the Frontenacs their first lost of the season. Graham and Petti were the first and third star of the match up.
The Bulls are looking to build off of their momentum and continue their strong play. Sunday is Go Purple day at the Yardmen Arena as October is Child Abuse Prevention month. The Quinte Children's Foundation will be in the attendance holding a silent auction on the concourse with lots of great prizes including game used sticks! Tickets are still available for this afternoon's contest, for more information contact the Bulls box office at 613-966-8338.
