Wolves Fall to Northern Rival

The Wolves were at home Sunday afternoon to battle the North Bay Battalion in the Nickel City. The Sunday showdown saw both teams fighting to take an early lead in the Central Division. The Battalions were facing their first away game of the season and the Wolves were looking to rebound after Friday's loss to the Greyhounds.

The first period of play saw a penalty filled 20 minutes with both the Wolves and the Battalion heading to the box numerous times. In the early minutes of play, North Bay's KYLE WOOD capitalized on a power play and put the puck in the back of the net. Former Wolf, RAY HEUTHER earned an assist on the play. The Wolves tied things up on the power play as MATT SCHMALZ put the equalizer past Battalion goaltender, JAKE SMITH. Rookie TRENTON BOURQUE picked up his first OHL point on the play.

The Battalion were off to a fast start in the second period and carried the momentum through the entire frame. North Bay's JARED STEELE put the go ahead goal past TROY TIMPANO, creating a 2-1 lead for the Battalion. Seconds later, ZACH BARTINA buried the puck, putting the Battalion up 3-1. With less than 5 minutes remaining in the second period, North Bay's ALEX HENRIKSSON pushed the lead to 4-1.

A penalty plagued third period saw the Wolves in the box for the majority of the first half of the period. North Bay's MIKE AMADIO extended the lead to 5-1 on the power play. Moments later, NICK PAUL extended North Bay's lead once again. The Wolves had a late period serge as PAVEL JENYS scored from the circle, with CONNOR BURGESS and EVAN DE HAAN earning assists on the play. The Battalion defeated the Wolves by a final score of 6-2. The final shots on net were 43-18 in favour of North Bay.

The Wolves will now look to rebound when they hit the road on Wednesday and travel to Sault Ste. Marie to take on the Greyhounds at 7:07PM. They boys will be looking even the series in the BELL FIBEROP CHALLENGE. The Wolves will hit home ice next Friday, October 10th at 7:30PM when the Owen Sound Attack visit the Nickel City for the only time this season.
