Reading Fightin Phils News Release

FirstEnergy Stadium – The Reading Phillies will take on the Erie SeaWolves in a special 9:35 AM game on Thursday, May 22 at FirstEnergy Stadium. The early start time is designed to accommodate second and third shift workers and senior citizens.

This is the second straight year that Reading will be hosting a morning baseball game. Last year's game started at 9:05 AM and was a smashing success, drawing 7,150 fans. In fact, heavy traffic congestion around the ballpark for last season's morning game prompted the R-Phils management to start the game half an hour later this time. The 9:35 start time should help avoid a conflict with rush hour. In addition, BARTA buses will be passing by the Dana parking lot on Front Street every 15 minutes, giving free rides to the ballpark.

The first 2,000 adults 15 and over will receive a FirstEnergy Stadium baseball compliments of Manor Care. The ball will be given away to celebrate the anniversary of the first game at the stadium, played on May 23, 1951. It is also Berks County Senior Citizens Council Day at the ballpark and seniors are invited to stroll around the warning track before the game from 8:00-8:30.

Rock Hits Y-102 FM will be broadcasting its morning show live outside the main entrance starting at

6 AM. Free coffee and hot dogs will be served outside the stadium prior to gates opening and breakfast foods will be on the menu at the concession stands inside. Gates will open at 8:00 AM.
