Halifax Mooseheads News Release
Halifax, NS - Four members of your Halifax Mooseheads will be heading to Hockey Canada's World Junior Selection Camp this month after being named to the 30-player roster today. Forwards Jordan Dumais and Markus Vidicek will be joined at camp by defenceman Jake Furlong and goaltender Mathis Rousseau.
Canada's National Junior Team will gather at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario for a four-day selection camp, December 10th to 13th, before selecting a final roster ahead of the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship. The selection camp will include a pair of games against a team of U SPORTS all-stars on December 12th and 13th. The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden from December 26th until January 5th.
The roster selection was led by Scott Salmond (Creston, BC), senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations, and Peter Anholt (Naicam, SK/Lethbridge, WHL), the under-20 lead for the Program of Excellence management group, in consultation with Brent Seabrook (Tsawwassen, BC). Head coach Alan Letang (Renfrew, ON/Sarnia, OHL), assistant coaches Gilles Bouchard (Normandin, QC/Sherbrooke, QMJHL), Shaun Clouston (Viking, AB/Kamloops, WHL) and Scott Walker (Cambridge, ON/Guelph, OHL), as well as goaltending consultant Justin Pogge (Penticton, BC), also provided input, along with coaches and general managers across the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).
Jordan Dumais is enjoying another monstrous season offensively for the Mooseheads and is among the QMJHL scoring race leaders with 42 points in 19 games played. He became Halifax's all-time career points leader in November when he broke a 20-year-old record of 303 points, previously held by Brandon Benedict. The 19-year-old Columbus Blue Jackets prospect has since improved his franchise record to 320 career points.
Mathis Rousseau is once again turning in some of the best numbers in the QMJHL after backstopping the Mooseheads all the way to the Gilles Courteau Trophy Finals last season. He is among the league leaders in wins (16), goals against average (2.07) and save percentage (.934). The native of Boisbriand, QC is third all-time in career wins by a Mooseheads goalie with 69.
Jake Furlong is the Captain of the Mooseheads and a San Jose Sharks prospect. The Upper Tantallon, NS native has been a stalwart on defense for Halifax throughout his career and a fixture on the top pairing. He has turned into one of the top shutdown defencemen in the QMJHL and is climbing the ranks in all-time scoring by a Mooseheads blueliner. His 120 points is seventh in franchise history.
Markus Vidicek has been a model of consistency during his Mooseheads tenure since being selected 14th overall in 2020. The 19-year-old from Kirkland, QC had a streak of 181 consecutive games played that spanned three seasons to sit second in team ironman history. He currently sits seventh in QMJHL scoring with 37 points while centering the top line alongside Jordan Dumais and Vegas draft pick Mathieu Cataford. His 213 career points is good for eighth in Mooseheads history.
There were eight QMJHL players named to the 30-player roster, including Sherbrooke goalie Samuel St-Hilaire, Drummondville defenceman Maveric Lamoureux, Victoriaville defenceman Noah Warren and Gatineau defenceman Tristan Luneau. In total, there are four goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 16 forwards vying for a spot on Canada's roster. Click here to see the FULL ROSTER.
The four members of the Mooseheads will depart from the team this weekend following the home games Thursday and Friday at Scotiabank Centre. Friday's contest is Toque Toss Night in Moose Country with fans asked to bring a new winter hat or glove set to throw on the ice when the Mooseheads score their first goal. Hats and gloves will be donated to local homeless shelters. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.

As part of its preparations, Canada will open its pre-tournament schedule against a U25 team from Denmark on Dec. 19 before facing Switzerland on Dec. 22 and the United States on Dec. 23.
