Moose sign pair of Canucks Second Rounders to ATO's

The Manitoba Moose announced today they have signed defencemen Taylor Ellington and Yann Sauve to amateur tryout contracts.

Ellington, 20, appeared in 69 games this past season with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. In that span, the Victoria, B.C. native scored six goals and 26 assists for 32 points and 130 penalty minutes. The Silvertips were recently eliminated from the WHL playoffs by the Tri-City Americans. In five seasons with the Silvertips, Ellington played in 287 career games and scored 66 points (14-52-66) and 371 penalty minutes. In his final year in the WHL, Ellington acted as an Alternate Captain and was named the Silvertips Co-Most Valuable Player at the end of the 2008-09 season.

Ellington was originally drafted in the second round, 33rd overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Sauve, 19, appeared in 61 games this past season with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL. In that span, the Montreal, PQ native scored five goals and 25 assists for 30 points and 64 penalty minutes. The Sea Dogs were recently eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. In three seasons with the Sea Dogs, Sauve played in 190 career games and scored 66 points (13-53-66) and 231 penalty minutes. He has also participated in three consecutive ADT Canada-Russia Challenges for Team QMJHL and also played for Team Canada at the Under-18 World Championships in 2007.

Sauve was originally drafted in the second round, 41st overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
