Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (35-16-4-4) and Milwaukee Admirals (30-24-4-1) matched up in an early 10:30 a.m. puck drop at UWM Panther Arena in Milwaukee on Wednesday. Milwaukee broke the game open in a 54 second span midway through the first. Justin Kirkland opened the scoring at 9:55 on a shorthanded goal. Trevor Smith followed him up moments later to give Milwaukee a 2-0 advantage that held through the end of the period.
The Moose got back into the contest at 5:54 of the second frame. Tucker Poolman made a slick move before centering for JC Lipon who popped in Manitoba's first of the game. The Moose continued to press in the period, and Lipon had another great chance shorthanded, but rang his shot off the post. Manitoba finished the period outshooting Milwaukee 10-5, but still trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Manitoba climbed back onto even footing 7:06 into the third period, courtesy of a five-on-three power play marker. The goal only took four seconds from the drop of the puck as the puck came to Sami Niku who delayed before snapping home his 12th of the season. The 2-2 deadlock would remain in place the final 13 minutes and through a fast-paced overtime period. Justin Kirkland and Frederick Gaudreau both scored in the shootout to lift the Admirals to the 3-2 win, their eighth in the shootout this season.
