Halifax Mooseheads News Release
Your Halifax Mooseheads begin a three-game road trip through the province of Quebec Thursday night when they put a five-game winning streak on the line in Baie-Comeau. Puck drop is 8pm ADT. Fans can watch on CHL TV or listen on CityNews Halifax.
The Herd will also face-off in Chicoutimi on Friday night and in Rimouski on Sunday afternoon in the first trip outside of the Maritimes this season. Halifax (5-2) has looked impressive since dropping the opening two games of the season with a depleted lineup. The team placed second in the most recent CHL Top 10 rankings which were released earlier this week.
Goalie Mathis Rousseau is the reigning QMJHL Player of the Week and is leading the league in most goaltending statistics including goals against average (1.20), save percentage (.956) and wins with five. His is second in franchise history for consecutive wins by a goalie to begin a season, trailing only Alexei Volkov who reeled off nine in a row to start the 1998-99 campaign.
Vegas Golden Knights prospect Mathieu Cataford has enjoyed a solid start to the year with a team-leading nine points. The 18-year-old forward has played Centre on a line with Logan Crosby on Right Wing and rookie Lou Levesque on Left Wing. Cataford has three goals and seven assists in his five games played and sits in a tie for fifth in QMJHL scoring. Levesque and Crosby have scored eight points each as their line has been the most productive trio for the Herd this season.
The Mooseheads are still without the services of forward Jordan Dumais who remains with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 2022-23 QMJHL MVP was placed on the injured list by the Jackets on Sunday with an upper-body injury.
Thursday's opponent is the Drakkar who are leading the Eastern Conference standings with a 6-1-1 record. Baie-Comeau's only regulation loss came in their last outing when they fell 6-1 to Gatineau on Thanksgiving Monday. 19-year-old Jules Boilard is leading the team with 10 points on two goals and eight assists. He is playing in his first season in the QMJHL after spending a couple of years in the BCHL. Boilard was originally a fourth round pick of Rimouski in 2021 and was acquired by Baie-Comeau in June.
On Friday, the Herd will visit the Sagueneens (2-4-1) at 8:30pm ADT. The Sags are a young team featuring the 2022-23 QMJHL Rookie of the Year in forward Maxim Masse. Chicoutimi has three top 10 draft picks from 2023 in the lineup and are led in scoring by 20-year-old Alexis Morin who has nine points. The road trip wraps up on Sunday at 4pm ADT in Rimouski against the 4-3-1 Oceanic. Maxime Coursol, a Rimouski 2021 first round draft pick, leads the team in scoring with 11 points.
The next home games for the Herd are set for Friday, October 20th against the rival Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Saturday, October 21st versus Val d'Or. The first 3,000 fans at the game on the 21st will receive free 30th Anniversary T-Shirts. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca
