Cape Breton Eagles News Release
NOTES FROM THE GAME - The Cape Breton Eagles built up leads of 2-0 and 4-2 and held on for a 4-3 victory in Gatineau over the Olympiques, stretching a winning streak to three games.
- Cam Squires, Cam MacDonald, and Oliver Houde all scored and registered multi-point nights in a 4-3 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques. Zach Biggar also scored for the Eagles while Xavier Daigle notched two assists.
- Jérémie Minville scored twice for the Olympiques while newly signed 20 year old free agent Ryan Del Monte scored in his QMJHL debut. Former Eagle Charles Boutin added an assist.
- Nicolas Ruccia's start in goal marked the first team either Eagles goaltender started consecutive games in the 2023-24 season. He stopped 27 of 30 shots in the win, while Zach Pelletier stopped 27 of 31 in the loss.
Biggar's goal was the only one of the opening period, the puck redirecting off Del Monte's stick in front of the goal. The Eagles added to the lead early in the second on Squires' power play marker as he jammed it in from the side of the goal.
Minville countered with a power play goal of his own, on a five on three, to make it a 2-1 game. But a Jan Golicic minor created a four on four situation, neither team capitalized and it was still a one goal deficit at period's end.
Del Monte tied the game in front of the goal in the third period, after fanning a shot and then sweeping around Ruccia. A heavy Houde shot from the right faceoff circle restored the Eagles lead on the power play, and MacDonald added to the lead on a rebound of a Houde shot.
Gatineau pushed in the late stages, with Minville scoring with just over six minutes left. The Olympiques had multiple opportunities with an extra man- first with Biggar in the box, and then with Pelletier lifted for an extra attacker. The Eagles held on for a 4-3 victory.
The Eagles road trip continues on Saturday night when they visit Jérémy Langlois, FJ Buteau and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies! Puck drop is 8 PM AST. The game is available for purchase on https://shorturl.at/fqKOV and you can also hear all the action on 1270 AM CJCB or online at www.cjcbradio.com
