PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE MB - Another quick start in the first period by the Manitoba Moose propelled the Vancouver Canucks affiliate to a 4-3 victory over the Abbotsford Heat in AHL preseason action on Saturday night in Western Manitoba.

Three goals in just over four minutes by the Moose did the trick on Saturday. Marco Rosa, Sergei Shirokov and Mario Bliznak scored mid way thru the first period to stake the Moose to a 3-0 first period lead.

The Moose would make it 4-0 early in the second on a backhand by Evan Rankin. However, goals by JD Watt, his second of the preseason, and by Abbotsford's own Riley Emmerson would cut the Moose lead to 4-2 after two.

In the third, the margin would be just one as Mitch Wahl would score a power play goal at 6:38. But just like Friday night, despite peppering Moose goaltender David Shantz with eleven shots in the third, the Heat could not find the equalizer and would fall in their second straight preseason encounter with the Moose.

JP Lamoureux takes the loss in goal, as he turned aside 17 of 21 shots in the loss. Former Heat goalie David Shantz picks up the win, turning aside 23 of 26 shots.

The Heat will now head home for a pair of practices on Monday and Tuesday, before heading out on their initial three game road trip of the season, when they will face the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, October 8th, followed by Milwaukee on Saturday the 9th before finishing off with a Thanksgiving Monday matchup with the Toronto Marlies on Monday morning the 11th of October.

The Abbotsford Heat will open their season at home with a pair of games against the Rockford Ice Hogs on Friday, October 15th and Saturday, October 16th.
