Albany Devils News Release
TROY, N.Y. - For the second-straight night David McIntyre produced the game-winner, lifting the Albany Devils to a 4-2 victory against the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday at RPI's Houston Field House. McIntyre, who scored in overtime the evening before for a 2-1 win, netted a pair of goals, including the go-ahead tally at 2:05 of the final period.
"Wow, he can really skate," head coach Rick Kowalsky told the media after the contest. "He's able to find that seam. Again not too many times the other night; he had that breakaway -- it's four-on-four there's more ice -- but he does it on the power play.
"It starts with the pass, Mangan-Greneir makes a bullet pass. One [McIntyre] has got to handle it and handle it at full stride. He definitely has a nose for the net."
McIntyre's wasn't alone with a two-point affair; Vladimar Zharkov helped out with two assists. He set up McIntyre's first tally five minutes into the game and had a helper - along with Mark Fayne - on Adam Henrique's power-play goal at 8:18 of the second.
The Devils established a two-goal lead before the Phantom's Peter MacDougall (12:22) and Garrett Klotz (14:51) pulled the score even in the second.
In a match filled with nine Albany power plays, McIntyre cashed in from Alexander Vasyunov and Justin Pender early in the third.
Stephen Gionta put the finishing touches on the final pre-season game with 15 seconds remaining to produce the final score.
In back-to-back starts, Jeff Frazee turned in a 24-save performance that included 14 stops in the opening period. His counterpart Nic Riopel had 25 saves.
The next time these two teams meet - Opening Night, Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Times Union Center - it will be for actual AHL points. The game will be the first of 12 outings between the squads. Tickets can be purchased at the Times Union Center box office or at any Ticketmaster outlet. Fans can also buy tickets via charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 or online at Ticketmaster.com.
